Character Education

Character Education

Beginning in Kindergarten, all students in Grades K-8 participate in our character education program with an emphasis on the words of our former Head of Middle School, Scott Rush, “Be Good Humans.” Through a variety of activities, lessons and discussions, students practice their skills inside and outside the classroom. Our Pillars of Excellence guide students throughout their time at RHCDS and beyond. Students earn “Be Good Human” tickets by demonstrating the pillars of character throughout the year.

Middle School students participate in weekly meetings with the Advisory group, discussing relevant topics relating to their social and emotional development. Guest speakers are often invited to present topics and facilitate robust roundtable discussions.

In the Lower School, Character Education is infused into every aspect of our academic and specialty programs. We emphasize the whole child while also focusing on individual growth.

Community Service is also an integral part of our character education program. School-wide opportunities along with grade specific community service projects make this program tangible and meaningful for all students. One goal of this program is to develop students into compassionate and responsible citizens who aim at making the world a better place.
