Ms. King, fourth grade teacher, believes that music is a great way to remember things and to show what one knows. She started having her students compose rock cycle songs five years ago to enhance their learning experience in science.

After the students learn about all of the different types of rocks, minerals, and the rock cycle, they work in small groups to compose a song. First, they select a song, use the melody, and then they incorporate the following words: sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic, crystals, and rock cycle. This is also a great way for them to express their creativity and work as a team.

After the students rehearse in front of their teacher and classmates, they perform for the entire student body.
