Country Day’s Third Grade students perform The Nutcracker every December.  The first Nutcracker performance was in 1987 and it has been an annual tradition ever since. This is the 39th year in production.  It continues to be a beloved favorite during the holiday season.

Mrs. Dianne Parker, music teacher, starts working with the students in mid-September. They learn about the Russian composer, Tchaikovsky and the Nutcracker story. This is a big production and many hours are dedicated by the students, Third Grade teachers, and Mrs. Parker. Parent involvement helping with the costumes and make-up has been greatly appreciated. All of the hard work pays off as the performance is enjoyed by our Country Day students and families.

Before the final performance for the Third Grade families, the students perform for both Lower School and Middle School. Middle School students especially enjoy this performance because they reminisce back to when they were in Third Grade and join in on the singing and fondly remember what role they played. Even our very own Assistant Principal, Mr. Todd Gordon, was in the original cast and was a Russian Baker. He still loves it and fondly recalls those special memories.

It’s a lively performance and gets everyone in the holiday spirit!
