Earlier this month, the 4th graders participated in the Walk Through California program. This program incorporates different aspects of early California history in an engaging way, utilizing the students’ prior knowledge and building on that to introduce important people and places. The students wore costumes representing people from California history. Each student also was responsible for being an expert on a specific vocabulary term relating to the geography and/or history of California. As an expert, each student demonstrated his or her understanding of the term assigned. The students also created a large-scale geographic map of California, incorporating items that identified specific areas such as San Francisco Bay, Yosemite, the Central Valley and even Disneyland. Both classes came together to enjoy a Fiesta-style lunch on the yard.
